About the course

Stained Glass
The courses are designed to explore your individual and creative potential through the design to fabrication of a stained glass panel; using a variety of techniques materials not just glass but the possibilities of shells, kitchen foil and much more.
For the more advanced participants we will explore different treatments to the glass (glass paints, silver stain, engraving, sandblasting and etch paste).
The main goal of our courses is for you to enjoy and explore, such areas as design, techniques and the creative process to acquire your very own panel

Fusing and Slumping
Learn the art of not only combining different glass but also incorporating materials into the glass by means of fusing in the kiln. Cutting, Grinding and Sandblasting to mention just a few of the techniques you will learn on the way to making your own glass project. Hopefully you will leave having acquired new skills and had fun along the way.

Just turn up and set your imagination free, and don’t forget to bring your camera.

Architectural Glass Model-Making

	Introduction to drills, diamond burs, crystal, float and specialised glass, glass working techniques including cutting of straight and curved lines, bonding, surface and deep-cut work, design and transfers, and the behaviour of glass and its technology. This workshop is suitable for all levels of architectural students who wish to explore and to produce their ideas in glass

Sandblasting and Resist Work

	Introduction to sandblasting equipment and grades of grit, stencilling, rubber solutions, design applications, two-level sandblasting, frosting, exploring and developmental work. This workshop is suitable for those who wish to develop into architectural glass work and to explore the use of the 2-D image to produce a 3-D effect.

Stained Glass and Colour Work

	Introduction to stained glass and colour work. Planning, transposing and scaling the design, glass cutting, leading-up, soldering, glass paints and glass painting. This is a weekend workshop which provides a good introduction to colour work and stained glass for beginners. It is hoped that students will be able to complete a small panel by the end of the workshop.

Casting, Fusing and Slumping

	Introduction to compatible glasses, joining together of glass, metals in glass, sculptural and open mould casting, design, exploration and developmental glass tile work. This is a weekend workshop which is ideal for students who wish to make unusual glass work or panels for incorporation into stained glass or architectural work. The workshop is for those who really wish to discover the scope of hot glass and stretch their imagination.

Degree Show Projects

	Glass Artists has a specialised bank of knowledge ranging from fashion and theatrical settings to large scale architectural projects in order to assist undergraduates with their degree show aims. Projects may be carried out during a weekend workshop at a budgeted cost.

Kiln Hiring Services

	The glass studio is able to provide a kiln-firing service for glass up to 99cm x 45cm at a reasonable cost with successive firings at a discount. Kiln hire from £45 per firing.
